Roommate assignments were posted today…
Mine, of course, has some serious weirdo potential. Haven’t been able to fully dig through his Facebook profile* because Facebook is blocked at work (damn them!). I will say though, judging by my preliminary investigations, he appears to be a step up from last year’s monster.
Needless to say, Kevin Robotica may have to be revived if this roommate ends up being as creepy and weird as the last one.
On another note, I always wonder what people think when they visit my Facebook profile for the first time. I have some creepy profile pictures and my status updates vary from extremely gay to depressing to obnoxiously involved with music. Will he visit Neon Waves? He doesn’t have any music listed on his profile so I have no idea what kind of music he’s into… The only TV show he listed was South Park, so that’s a few negative points there.
It takes getting to know me in real life (or via cyberwebs) before you can fully understand and appreciate the work of art that is my Facebook.
* The fact that he has a Facebook alone puts him on an entirely higher plane than the swamp monster I had last year.

Neon Waves’ 1st Mixtape: Gradient Summer
So this mixtape was born out of a playlist I made for a road trip last month and eventually kept adding and removing from… So some of the songs are a little old, some are very old, and some are new. Some are popular, some not so well known. Ignoring all of that, it’s just a collection of songs that have become the soundtrack to my summer so far.

Welcome to Neon Waves.
So this is Neon Waves. I’m taking a break from other “blogging engagements” and throwing all my energy behind this new one now. Neon Waves is going to be like a diary for music - everything I’m listening to at the moment, new stuff I find and really like, bands I think my friends might like… I’m writing for myself but with other people in mind as well.
I thought about whether or not I wanted to focus on one genre or maybe have no focus at all… Ultimately I decided that I would loosely focus on psychedelic and electronic music most specifically and “indie” music more broadly. Because I have a pretty broad taste in music, I’m also bound to post about music that’s much more “mainstream.” Don’t be surprised if you see a post about Kanye West or Kelis. Like I said, if it’s something I’m getting into at the moment, it’s going to be posted here.
Another thing I should say from the get-go: I’m not a great writer. I know this. My vocabulary in terms of describing music is sort of limited and I might not always have the most profound of thoughts concerning new music I’m listening to. But I’m hoping that by writing about music regularly, I will learn as I go.
Posts on Neon Waves will be generally short, frequent and track-centric (as opposed to album-centric). I’m not really going to post reviews of albums. I think that’s done better and more frequently by people more qualified. So instead I’ll mostly be posting single tracks (maybe a few at a time, really) and giving a few thoughts on those and links for downloads.
Long term goals? I don’t really have any yet. It’d be cool if eventually some other people got interested in what I was doing and wanted to help or something. That’s all I can really think of right now.
So, that pretty much wraps up the very first (and very messy) post of Neon Waves. Hope whoever ends up reading this enjoys the music that I post as much as I do and that hopefully you find some new music that you wouldn’t have ever encountered otherwise.
Oh yeah! I’ve created a Twitter account for Neon Waves too, so be sure to follow that if you use Twitter.

Please go to neonwaves.net and refollow if you followed before.
I went ahead and made it a separate Tumblr - having to go to the Kevinrobotica dash and navigate my way through was already getting annoying.
Sorry for the hassle, but I appreciate everyone who decided to follow :)
